The Blue Dot Network aims to help mobilise private sector investment by identifying and encouraging market-driven, transparent, and sustainable infrastructure projects. It establishes a voluntary, private-sector focused, government-supported project-level certification that aligns with the G20 Principles for Quality Infrastructure Investment, the UN Sustainable Development Goalsthe International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, and the OECD Recommendation on the Governance of Infrastructure. The Blue Dot Certification Framework is currently being piloted on a number of infrastructure projects across different regions and sectors.

Build4Skills aims to improve the integration and therefore available opportunities for technical and vocational education and training in infrastructure project delivery. Build4Skills deploys TVET students to construction sites and trains in-company instructors on didactics, occupational safety and gender sensitivity. The Build4Skills Toolkit is based on the experiences of the cooperation of the project with the Asian Development Bank on infrastructure sites in Mongolia and Pakistan. It derives recommendations on how to implement similar projects elsewhere and  like this aims to support MDB’s and other actors to procure their infrastructure projects in a way that contributes to skill and economic development. To do so, it summarizes the Build4skills implementation practice, offers guidance on how Build4Skills can be applied in additional construction projects in the future, and provides an outlook on how this Toolkit and the project’s approach can be further developed. It highlights a delivery framework based on four components to plan and execute a Build4Skills project and two design principles that pervade all four stages.

The report „Benchmarking Infrastructure Development 2020“ assesses the regulatory quality of large infrastructure projects through both Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Traditional Public Investments (TPIs) in 140 and 40 economies respectively. The corresponding online platform highlights the key findings resulting from the data, organized around the infrastructure project cycle phases (regulatory & institutional framework, preparation, procurement, contract management, management of unsolicited proposals, infrastructure asset management). By providing actionable indicators, the tool supports evidence-based regulatory reforms to improve the enabling environment for developing quality infrastructure projects.

BREEAM Communities International Technical Standard is a tool to measure and certify and perspectively improve the sustainability of large-scale development plans. The tool assesses projects’ environmental, social and economic performance and provides key target benchmarks that assist decision makers in better understanding the long-term impacts of their projects. Thereby, the tool supports the integration of sustainability principles and goals already during the early planning and design stages of projects. After the assessment, an independent third-party verification takes place and successful projects receive certification.

BREEAM Buildings Technical Standard is a sustainability assessment method for the building sector with individual standards for (1) New Constructions, (2) In-Use Buildings and (3) Refurbishments. The tool assesses the environmental, social and economic sustainability performance of buildings, with the aim to enhance buildings’ economic and social value whilst mitigating environmental impacts and enhancing user satisfaction. After the assessment, an independent third-party verification takes place and successful projects receive certification. A pre-approval version for planning processes is available.

BEAM Plus Neighbourhood assesses the sustainability performance of neighbourhood development projects applying a holistic approach. The tool concerns the design of space between buildings and places emphasis on socio-economic elements, thereby supporting the creation of sustainable neighbourhoods with a vibrant public realm. Applied at early stage, it helps to engage with communities and key stakeholders during project development and to save resources through effective early stage sustainability planning. The performance of projects is rated with a point scoring that can result in a third-party verified certification.
